Codee Mac’s work explores the spaces between vulnerability, freedom, and intimacy - the quiet moments where connection and self-awareness collide. Drawing on personal memories and lived experience, his practice examines how identity is shaped by both the freedom people pursue and the social structures they inherit.
Through painting, Codee Mac revisits moments of adolescence and queer discovery - experiences that blur innocence with sensuality, comfort with exposure. The human body often functions as a metaphor for emotional honesty, reflecting the tension between openness and restraint.
His approach is intuitive and highly textural. Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, he builds surfaces that feel physical and lived-in — layered with movement, at times raw and at others deeply tender. Each work becomes an attempt to reconcile memory, desire, and self-acceptance within the same emotional space.

Artworks currently on exhibition can be collected from the gallery at 45 Flinders Lane, Melbourne VIC 3000 once the exhibition has concluded. Collection is available during gallery hours: Tuesday to Friday, 12–7pm, and Saturday, 12–4pm.
