Biography

Richard Besley is a Melbourne-based artist who has been creating abstract paintings and drawings for over 30 years. His practice has evolved from compositions inspired by patterns in nature to a more intuitive process of layering and removing paint and pigment, allowing each work to develop organically. Drawn to the physical qualities of paint, Besley explores light, movement and space through richly layered surfaces. He has held numerous solo exhibitions in Melbourne, including at fortyfivedownstairs and Chapman & Bailey.

Artworks in the stockroom can be collected from the gallery at 45 Flinders Lane, Melbourne VIC 3000 within one business day of purchase. Collection is available during gallery hours: Tuesday to Friday, 12–7pm, and Saturday, 12–4pm.
