Aleksander Morris' painting Rockpools was painted from a vintage slide from his family archive using a slide projector. His work relates to themes of memory, diaspora, and the translation of photography into painting. His identity as a queer Jewish artist influences the feelings of disconnectedness and instability expressed in his paintings, symbolised through negative space and soft brush strokes. The faceless figures and faded colours in Rockpools show a dream-like image of a father and daughter, reminiscent of knowledge that deteriorates as it is passed through generations.
