I often think of my art practice as a conversation with myself.
Through making, I process emotions, untangle thoughts, and try to better understand my experience of the world around me. Stillness emerged from this ongoing dialogue.
The work is created through thousands of repeated hand-knotted gestures — a process that is slow, physical, and deeply repetitive. Over time, I’ve come to understand that this repetition is not simply a way of creating objects, but a way of slowing down, finding calm, and creating space for reflection.
Recently, I’ve become increasingly interested in a broader question: why, in a world that is becoming ever more digital, are we so drawn to tactile experiences, craftsmanship, and objects that clearly bear the traces of the human hand? I wonder whether we are searching for something fundamentally human — a sense of presence, connection, and belonging.
Through texture, repetition, and materiality, Stillness became my way of exploring these ideas. The work invites a slower pace of viewing and offers a gentle reminder that perhaps stillness is not something we achieve once and for all, but something we return to, again and again.

Artworks currently on exhibition can be collected from the gallery at 45 Flinders Lane, Melbourne VIC 3000 once the exhibition has concluded. Collection is available during gallery hours: Tuesday to Friday, 12–7pm, and Saturday, 12–4pm.
