Smooth flesh melds with industrial artefact from the casting process, providing a vocabulary to reflect on the tensions between the somatic experience of feeling joyful and embodied and the invasive lengths society pressures women to reach for in order to conform to a narrow idea of beauty. When endless cosmetic procedures and bodily interventions are on offer; when is a human body enough, finished, complete?
Anna’s acceptance of raw material subverts notions of completeness. The sprue system, which channels the molten bronze, has been left intact along with flashing, heat tint, and nail holes. “Unfinished,” she is suspended between the visceral experience of her body in motion and the weight of beauty standards pressing in on her.

Artworks currently on exhibition can be collected from the gallery at 45 Flinders Lane, Melbourne VIC 3000 once the exhibition has concluded. Collection is available during gallery hours: Tuesday to Friday, 12–7pm, and Saturday, 12–4pm.
