The work is derived from the idea of a companion that has outlived its purpose. Once embraced, carried, and cherished, the plush toy now exists in a state of gradual deterioration, suspended somewhere between remembrance and abandonment. Its worn appearance is not intended to represent physical decay alone, but the slow erosion of connection itself.
The artist was drawn to the contradiction inherent within the object. Plush toys are created to provide comfort, affection, and companionship, yet many eventually become neglected, stored away, or discarded. Through the introduction of unsettling and decrepit elements, the work challenges the viewer's expectations of familiarity and warmth, transforming a symbol of comfort into a relic of absence.
By blending whimsy with deterioration, the piece explores the lingering presence of relationships, memories, and attachments that have long since faded. The plush toy becomes a vessel for these experiences, preserving traces of affection whilst simultaneously bearing witness to their disappearance.

Artworks currently on exhibition can be collected from the gallery at 45 Flinders Lane, Melbourne VIC 3000 once the exhibition has concluded. Collection is available during gallery hours: Tuesday to Friday, 12–7pm, and Saturday, 12–4pm.
